Part 1: Eternity 7th/10th Anniversary Part 1: IntroductionPart 2:
Part 3:
You know, I reeeeeally should've started posting these things earlier in 2014, but I was so busy this semester I didn't get the chance. At least I'm starting in 2014.
At the moment, I'm in the process of drawing some of the Eternity characters in their oldest designs versus their newest designs. That will be finished in 2015.
I'll also use this journal to announce an impending name change to Eternity. There are two names I'm debating between.
1. Age of Eternity
and
2. Eternity is Forever
I'm leaning towards the first name. Not only does it have a retro or video game feel to it that I think suits Eternity well (since the aesthetics and world are very gaming-inspired), but also because it references the Age of Heroes. The Age of Heroes is a time a millenium or two before Eternity takes place that was something of a golden age. In this time, both formidable heroes and formidable villains f

Part 3: Spirits
The Age of Heroes is a time period that happened a couple thousand years prior to the events of Eternity. This was an enormously influential period of time, and its effects continue to influence the world millenia later. At the time Eternity is set, it is prophecied that there will be a second Age of Heroes. Though most of what happened in the Age of Heroes has been lost of time, some of it became legend.
However, there are so many conflicting versions of the legends that no one is sure what is true and what isn't. Because of this, the heroes' names have changed from version to version, and even in different regions of the Eternity World, some heroes have different names. The names used here are what each Eternity character calls their own Guiding Spirit.
The Guiding Spirits appear as balls of light that float around

This hopefully will shed some light onto my characters and some of what inspired them.

Motifs refer to themes that are connected with the character.
Alignment is very subjective. Depending on what character’s perspective you’re seeing things from, these can change. For instance, some characters see Concorde as a hero and others see him as a troublemaker and even a destructive force. Talons and some other Klein newcomers see him as a hero who is helping his citizens, but the creatures of the Eternity World see him as an invader.
How I define alignment:
(Here this is categorized from Concorde/The Time Flyers' perspective. Take alignment with a grain of salt.)
Good: Characters who consider themselves enemies of characters who consider themselves villains. Also applies to characters who are sometimes or always allies of these characters. Can also include characters who are truly good at heart, but are put into situations where they work with villains.
Neutral: Characters who are neither Good nor Evil, or play both sides. Also includes characters who are not evil, but are at odds with “Good” characters, as well as characters who are allies of “Evil” characters that don’t fit cleanly into the “Evil” category.
Evil: Characters who consider themselves to be villains or do bad things willfully and with the knowledge that they are doing bad.

Lawful: Characters who “stick to the rules” and value doing things honestly and fairly, and often have polite and openly kind personalities.
Neutral: Characters who are a combination of Lawful and Chaotic or don’t fit cleanly in either category.
Chaotic: Characters who use unconventional and sometimes questionable methods, and often have an “attitude” or rude, flippant personalities.

The Eternity Zodiac works on a system based in colors. Since their years works differently than ours, they have a different zodiac system. There are only 360 days in Eternity years, and each season happens three times due to how fast their planet spins. Each season lasts thirty days. A whole cycle of four seasons is fittingly called a fourseason, and three of these happen each year. I will add a page about it on the Eternity website.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Name: Concorde the Falcon

Name Reason: Concorde was originally named Boomer (with reference to sonic booms as well as his loudmouthed and boisterous personality). Concorde is the name of the world’s fastest plane, the Concorde. Concorde the Falcon’s name is pronounced the same way, “CAWN-cord”, not “CAWN-curd” like the town or the grape. Concorde begins and ends on hard consonant sounds, beginning on a “Kuh” and ending on a “Duh” and because of this it has a forceful sound.

Species: Prairie Falcon (Falco mexicanus )

Species Reason: Concorde was originally a red-tailed hawk because I saw them frequently and always liked them. A long time ago, around 2007, I changed him to a falcon to emphasize his speed, but I didn’t want to change his color scheme too dramatically and I wanted him to stay brown and white with yellow eyes. Granted, Eternity characters don’t need realistic color schemes, but I think it suits him nonetheless.

Alignment: Chaotic Good

Motifs: Speed, wind, energy, urban life, leadership, the color blue

Birthday/Zodiac: Autumn 27, born under Crimson (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Sagittarius, third decan)
____________________________

Name: Topaz Rivetkin (a.k.a. Topaz the Cat)

Name Reason: Topaz is a golden-orange gemstone. Topaz was originally a treasure hunter (and still retains some vestiges of this). The name still suits her since she has orange and gold fur (and originally she had more orange on her). Topaz is a forceful sounding name, beginning with a forceful sound “Tuh” and ending in a forceful “Zzz”. It begins and ends on two hard consonants, which suits her assertive personality. The same goes for her last name, Rivetkin, although the last name Rivetkin was not applied to her until recently.

Species: Cat (Felis domesticus)

Species Reason: Topaz has always been a cat, and though there have been a couple brief moments I have considered changing her species, I never wanted to change her tabby markings. Also, if I had to pick an animal to associate with technology, I would pick the cat. Cats are sleek and streamlined, adaptable and resourceful, yet they can be finicky, independent and solitary in nature.

Alignment: Neutral Evil

Motifs: Technology, the color red, fire, passion, power, fame, accomplishment

Birthday/Zodiac: Summer 15, born under Red (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Leo, second decan)

__________________________________________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________________________________________

Name: Angel Asterra

Name Reason: Angel has always been named Angel Asterra. Asterra is a portmanteau of aster (star) and earth (terra). She is an echidna, so she is associated with earth, and she is the leader of a unity-promoting group called the Seven S (Super Spunky Special Secret Search Service of South Island-the fact she picked such a name says a lot about her personality), as well as the most significant character from South Island, so “star” suits her.

Species: Short-Beaked Echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus)

Species Reason: Angel has always been an echidna. Echidnas are digging animals, and I wanted a character who was skilled at using the earth to her advantage by tunneling. She has always had a thematic association with earth that goes beyond her tunneling ability.

Alignment: Lawful Good

Motifs: Family and teammates, patriotism, nature, earth, dreams, underground

Birthday/Zodiac: Winter 26, born under Navy (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Pisces, third decan)

____________________________

Name: Bali H’u

Name Reason: Bali has always been named Bali H’u. Not only is it a pun on “ballyhoo”, but also “Bollywood”, referencing the style of her attire. It’s also a reference to “Bali H’ai”, a song from the musical South Pacific, and the refrain inspired her catchphrase “Bali H’u will find you!”

Species: Ball Python (Python regius)

Species Reason:  Ball Pythons are sleek, beautiful, exotic and elegant. One of Bali’s most unique traits come from her constricting ability, which she can use to “borrow” abilities from other creatures.

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Motifs: Fame, travel, glitz, real vs. fake identity

Birthday/Zodiac: Summer 11, born under Red (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Leo, first decan)

____________________________

Name: Camille Leone

Name Reason: Very early on, for a couple months or so, Camille was known as Mirage the Chameleon, and she had silver scales. Camille Leone is a pun on “chameleon” and also is a French name, which is fitting considering she speaks French as a first language and English as a second (however, I use the French and English pronunciations of “Camille” interchangeably).

Species: Veiled Chameleon (Chamaeleo calyptratus)

Species Reason:  Chameleons are best known for their camouflage and changing the color and markings on their scales. I thought this would be an interesting  and fitting ability for a spy to have. Chameleons are also exotic and interesting-looking, and have some cool abilities such as remarkable climbing prowess and prehensile tongues.

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Motifs: Exotic vs. familiar, tropics, camouflage and stealth

Birthday/Zodiac: Summer 28, born under Yellow (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Virgo, third decan)

____________________________

Name: Ceylon the Peafowl

Name Reason: Ceylon has always been named Ceylon. His eyelet tail markings bring to mind the shape of Sri Lanka (formerly called Ceylon), and it is a fittingly exotic name for him. Also, he is an Indian Peafowl, so the geographic location is close to his species’ namesake.

Species: Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus)

Species Reason:  Ceylon has always been a peacock. For appearance, though he is quite humble about his looks. Unlike Dixie, he is aware he is good-looking.

Alignment: Lawful Good

Motifs: Omens, spirituality, feeling, heritage

Birthday/Zodiac: Winter 20, born under Slate (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Aquarius, third decan)

____________________________

Name: Dixie the Heron

Name Reason: Dixie has always been named Dixie. Her accent is based off a Southern accent, so Dixie is a fitting name for her. Later this inspired me to give her some magnolias in her crest. Dixie also comes from “dix”, meaning “ten”. Somehow the number 10 always seems to affect her life, in subtle and obvious ways, and in good and bad ways.

Species: Great White Heron (Ardea herodias occidentalis)

Species Reason:  In her very, very earliest days, Dixie was a tern, but I changed her to a heron so quickly that I don’t have any drawings from that time. Herons are beautiful, elegant birds with long crests, long legs and graceful movements. More specifically, Dixie is a Great White Heron because of her pale feathers and the fact that her name references the South, the only place where Great White Herons can be found.

Alignment: Lawful Good

Motifs: Family loyalty versus gang loyalty, lack of confidence, magnolias, the number 10

Birthday/Zodiac: Summer 30, born under Yellow (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Virgo, third decan)

____________________________

Name: Escarlata the Macaw

Name Reason: For a long time Escarlata was named Rosetta, because I was under the impression her name meant “Red”, referencing her feathers and the color she loves so much. I changed her name to Escarlata, which means “scarlet”, referencing the color and her species.

Species: Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao)

Species Reason:  Escarlata has always been a Scarlet Macaw. Macaws are loud, flamboyant and can be aggressive. They also are very flashy with their brilliant feathers. These traits make Escarlata a foil to her co-worker Wraith.

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Motifs: The color red, teamwork, money, shifting alliances

Birthday/Zodiac: Spring 7, born under Pink (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Aries, second decan)

____________________________

Name: Feist the Sparrow

Name Reason: Feist was originally named Fury. I thought Feist was a more appropriate name for him, since he does have a very feisty personality.

Species: House Sparrow (Passer domesticus)

Species Reason:  Feist has always been a sparrow. Sparrows are adaptable, widespread birds that often live in urban areas. They have striking striped patterns, which suits Feist’s design, and energetic, aggressive personalities for such small birds.

Alignment: Chaotic Good

Motifs: Graffiti, adapting, newfound loyalty

Birthday/Zodiac: Spring 5, born under Pink (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Aries, second decan)

____________________________

Name: Ivy Rivetkin, a.k.a. Rivette

Name Reason: Rivette has always been called Rivette, and she has always been Rivet’s literal opposite. She was created specifically to be a member of the Rivetkin family.

Species: Golden Pheasant (Chrysolophus pictus)

Species Reason: Rivette has always been a pheasant, because of their long, often strikingly-patterned feathers and strong legs. Rivette’s middle name is Julianne, like all other female members of the Rivetkin family. This is to honor the original member of the family, Julian Rivetkin, who is also known as the Red Fire. The Red Fire was the main villain in an ancient time known as the Age of Heroes, and the Rivetkin family idolizes him and wants to revive his legacy.

Alignment: Chaotic Evil

Motifs: Personal vs. family conflicts, machinery, robotics, transformation

Birthday/Zodiac: Spring 3, born under Pink (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Aries, first decan)

____________________________

Name: Jeremy Rivetkin, a.k.a. Rivet

Name Reason: For the first couple years, Rivet was known simply as Jeremy (I don’t recall what the rest of his name was at this time, but it wasn’t Rivetkin). When I created the Rivetkin family and made Rivet a member, I decided to have Rivet as his nickname. Rivet’s middle name is Julian, like all other male members of the Rivetkin family. This is to honor the original member of the family, Julian Rivetkin, who is also known as the Red Fire. The Red Fire was the main villain in an ancient time known as the Age of Heroes, and the Rivetkin family idolizes him and wants to revive his legacy.

Species: Cape Vulture (Gyps coprotheres)

Species Reason: Rivet has always been a vulture. Vultures are rather grotesque, awkward looking creatures, and Rivet has a gangly appearance (though this has varied over time) and a dorky personality. However, despite their appearances, vultures are very graceful in the air, and Rivet is highly capable with machines. Cape Vultures are large, shaggy vultures with gray and white feathers and darker markings, so it made perfect sense for Rivet to be a Cape Vulture.

Alignment: True Neutral

Motifs: Machinery, individual vs. family expectations, family

Birthday/Zodiac: Autumn 4, born under Gray (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Libra, second decan)

____________________________

Name: Larina Goëlande

Name Reason:  The name Larina means “seagull”, and Larina is a seagull. Likewise, “goëlande” is French for seagull (mostly the larger species). Larina’s first name and middle name Argent references the scientific name of her species, Larus argentatus.

Species: Herring Gull (Larus argentatus)

Species Reason: Larina has always been a seagull. While seagulls are not birds of the open ocean, they are associated with water, which has always been something associated with her. She is very much like the water, relaxed and calm but excitable due to action. Seagulls are also very enterprising and inventive birds, and Larina is quite skilled with machinery.

Alignment:  Neutral Good

Motifs: Water, finding purpose in life, machinery, heritage

Birthday/Zodiac: Winter 14, born under Slate (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Aquarius, second decan)

____________________________

Name: Maize the Cockatiel

Name Reason: Maize is a light golden yellow color, or more specifically the color of corn. This is one of the main colors on Maize’s feathers.

Species: Cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus)

Species Reason: Maize has always been a cockatiel. I always liked their crests and their color schemes, particularly their rosy cheeks. Cockatiels are also very social birds, and Maize’s strengths and weaknesses come from her sociability in the past and present.

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Motifs: Leadership, graffiti, past relations

Birthday/Zodiac: Winter 22, born under Navy (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Pisces, first decan)

____________________________

Name: Marius Rowell

Name Reason: Marius derives from “Mars”, the Roman god of war. Rowell is a surname of my invention, though I discovered later on it is a real surname meaning “from the river Rouel”, and it’s interesting that it ties in with water and rivers. His middle name Egbert means “gleam of light from a sword’s edge”, referring to his status as a swordslizard.

Species: Plumed Basilisk (Basiliscus plumifrons)

Species Reason: Marius has always been a basilisk. Basilisks are a type of lizard known for the unique ability to run across water. I wanted a character who had this ability, and I wanted a character who would be fast on land and on water.

Alignment: Lawful Good

Motifs: Truth, honor, tradition, swords, water, rivers, leadership

Birthday/Zodiac: Autumn 2, born under Gray (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Libra, first decan)

____________________________

Name: Martial by Name, Nature and Species

Name Reason: Martial references his personality, as he enjoys fighting and has an aggressive personality. It also references his species as a Martial Eagle.

Species: Martial Eagle (Polemaetus bellicosus)

Species Reason: Very early on, Martial was a jackrabbit, but I quickly changed him to a Golden Eagle. He always had an association with deserts, and originally he was known just as Martial by Name and Nature. I decided that it made more sense for him to be a Martial Eagle given his name and his personality.

Alignment: Neutral Good

Motifs: Protection, history, deserts, strength, battle, devotion

Birthday/Zodiac: Spring 11, born under Cream (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Taurus, first decan)

____________________________

Name: Mascara the Fox

Name Reason: Mascara is a black liquid used to accentuate the eyelashes. Mascara herself has long black fur and is also the type who would wear mascara.

Species: Red fox (Vulpes vulpes)

Species Reason: Way back when, Mascara was a cat, but around 2007 I changed her to a fox. As she puts it, “I'm a vixen in two ways and a fox in three.” She’s literally a vixen and she has a sometimes malicious personality. Likewise, she is literally a fox, she is clever and sneaky and she is also quite attractive.

Alignment: Neutral Evil

Motifs: Technology, aging, computers, beauty, family relations, real versus fake love,

Birthday/Zodiac: Summer 3, born under Turquoise (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Cancer, first decan)

____________________________

Name: Nikko the Canary

Name Reason: Nikko means “sunshine”, and suits Nikko’s ability to manipulate and use sunlight. However, he can only do this during the day and when the sun is shining. He also has bright yellow feathers with orange and white markings. His aunt Dixie calls him her “little sunshine”.

Species: Island Canary (Serinus canaria)

Species Reason: Nikko was originally a dog (more specifically, a Chihuahua) but I can’t find any drawings of that design. Unfortunately, I think they disappeared in the packing process when my parents sold the house. Regardless, I changed Nikko to a finch quite a long time ago (around 2007) when I decided that Concorde’s gang would only contain birds. The canary is a type of finch well-known for having bright yellow plumage, so I changed Nikko’s name to Nikko the Canary.

Alignment: Lawful Good

Motifs: Sunshine, light, optimism, family, warmth

Birthday/Zodiac: Summer 10, born under Turquoise (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Cancer, third decan)

____________________________

Name: Opal the Leopard

Name Reason: Opal is a type of gemstone that usually has a light background (light blue, silver or white) with iridescent, bright flecks of other colors. Opal’s pelt suggests the patterns of an opal. October’s birthstone is opal, and precedes November’s birthstone, topaz. This is fitting since Topaz and Opal are counterparts; they are distinctly different, opposites in many ways, yet closely associated with each other.

Species: Snow Leopard (Panthera uncia)

Species Reason: Very early on, Opal was a seagull and shared many physical characteristics that eventually formed Larina. I changed her species to a snow leopard because of her association with the cold and also her light-colored pelt with darker markings.

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Motifs: Ice, the cold, spirituality, love and conflict, hot springs

Birthday/Zodiac: Autumn 11, born under Blue (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Scorpio, first decan)

____________________________

Name: Phoebe Brighton

Name Reason: Phoebe was originally named “Phoebe Robin” because I thought it would be humorous for her to have the name of two species of birds. However, Phoebe also means “bright”, which suits her high intelligence. To emphasize this, I made her last name Brighton. Later on, I found this was an actual surname. Phoebe’s middle name is Sophia, which means “wise”.

Species: American Robin (Turdus migratorius)

Species Reason: Phoebe has always been a robin. She is petite and has a “chirpy” and somewhat belligerent personality. She speaks up and gives out advice in a way that often annoys others.

Alignment: Neutral Good

Motifs: The color indigo, intelligence, books, book smarts versus street smarts, graffiti, thinking

Birthday/Zodiac: Summer 25, born under Yellow (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Virgo, second decan)

____________________________

Name: Sable Herisson

Name Reason: Sable has always had the same name. Sable references her dark, nearly black fur and spikes. “Herisson” is French for “hedgehog”, though weirdly enough the closest Earth approximation to her accent is a Cockney British accent.

Species: European Hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus)

Species Reason: Sable has always been a hedgehog. Her spikes resemble tousled hair, which suits her exuberant and sometimes rough-and-tumble personality.

Alignment: Chaotic Good

Motifs: News, television, music, conflict with the law, the number 5

Birthday/Zodiac: Spring 24, born under Silver (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Gemini, second decan)

____________________________

Name: Static the Hare

Name Reason: Static was originally named Lightning the Rabbit, but I changed him to Static because “lighting” was too powerful a name for him, whereas static is fast, but merely a cause of annoyance. Static is definitely a cause of annoyance for Escarlata and her team as well as Concorde and his gang.

Species: Black-Tailed Jackrabbit (Lepus californicus)

Species Reason: Static has always had a black tail, and I thought it suited him better to be a hare than a rabbit (despite the name, jackrabbits are hares) since hares are faster runners. Jackrabbits also have black tails.

Alignment: Chaotic Good

Motifs: Energy, speed, loyalty, fun

Birthday/Zodiac: Autumn 24, born under Crimson (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Sagittarius, second decan)

____________________________

Name: Talons the Buzzard

Name Reason: Talons was originally named Talon the Hawk, referencing his unusually long talons, which combined with his immense strength makes him a formidable opponent. He also wears brass “talons” on his boots both for appearance and to amplify his blows, like brass knuckles. Interestingly, Talons is technically still a hawk-he and Yanna’s species are closely related and in the same genus, Buteo- but I changed him to “Buzzard” because of his species name. Hawk and buzzard are interchangeable terms, like pigeon and dove, but hawk is used more with New World species and buzzard is used more with Old World species. This is further complicated by “turkey buzzard”, which is a nickname for the turkey vulture.

Species: Jackal Buzzard (Buteo rufofuscus)

Species Reason: Jackal Buzzards have very striking coloring and markings, so Talons has always been a Jackal Buzzard. The black, white and burgundy suits him nicely.

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Motifs: Conflicting love, power, talons, elegance

Birthday/Zodiac: Spring 17, born under Cream (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Taurus, second decan)

____________________________

Name: Thundra Tamarack

Name Reason: Thundra has always been Thundra, and was initially named for a dear friend of mine who is no longer with me, and hasn’t been for years. Later, I decided that the ability to control storms and lightning runs in her family, and she was named with the assumption that she would inherit that ability (she didn’t). To compensate, she carries a bolas that crackles with electricity and creates booming noise as it whistles through the air and strikes. The tawny streaks against her black-brown fur suggests a thunderstorm. A tamarack is a type of tree, tying in with the earth. Her initials reference “TNT” or “dynamite” and its thunderous abilities.

Species: Lowland Streaked Tenrec (Hemicentetes semispinosus)

Species Reason: Thundra has always been a tenrec, mostly because of the distinct bright streaks of yellow and white that tenrecs have on their otherwise dark spikes, suggesting lightning. Her color scheme has changed very little, though initially she may have had more tawny on her.

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Motifs: Pursuit, electricity, storms, thunder, lighting, wandering, retribution, nature

Birthday/Zodiac: Winter 2, born under Tawny (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Capricorn, first decan)

____________________________

Name: Trellis Harmone

Name Reason: Trellis is actually a very recent name; she’s changed names so many times, yet her appearance has always remained that of a white long-furred feline with stripes, turquoise eyes, and a turquoise outfit. She originally was named Snowdrift, with reference to her white fur. Later she became Triss Kaideka, with reference to “triskaidekaphobia” or the fear of a certain number that brings about bad luck. Recently I got rid of the plot point that she was a jinx, since it wasn’t doing much for the story and it was a pain to write around. Perhaps the name Triss Kaideka may surface in another character. For a while I considered changing her name, and very recently I found the perfect name: Trellis Anne Harmone. Her full name sounds like “Trellis in Harmony” (Harmone is pronounced “Har-MOAN-ee). A trellis is a metal piece that supports plants and encourages them to grow. Likewise, Trellis is strongly devoted to nature and helping it through the means of technology.

Species: Wildcat (Felis sylvestris)

Species Reason: Trellis was a cat for a very long time, but I didn’t want her sharing a species with one of the main characters, Topaz. I tried to think of what else to make her, since I wanted to keep her light tabby markings. Being a wildcat ties into her love of nature. Also, “wildcat” is a term for someone who is adventurous in entrepreneurial pursuits and likes to take risks, which definitely sounds like Trellis.

Alignment: Neutral Good

Motifs: Family, ideals, nature, technology,

Birthday/Zodiac: Summer 20, born under Red (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Leo, third decan)

____________________________

Name: Twilight Dawn

Name Reason: Twilight has always been associated with the evening. Very early on, when he was more of a parody character, his name was Vespertillio, referencing “vesper”, the evening, and also a genus of bat species. Dawn ties in with Twilight, and also suggests the passing of time (Twilight’s full name is Twilight Midnight Dawn). Dawn also references his species.

Species: Cave Nectar Bat (Eonycteris spelaea)

Species Reason: Twilight has always been a bat. The Cave Nectar Bat is also called the Dawn Bat, and the scientific name references “Eos”, or “dawn”. Dawn bats have black fur with a ruff of silver around their necks, and surprisingly Twilight was designed prior to learning this.

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Motifs: Time, evening, night, Chaos energy, past loss vs. present gains

Birthday/Zodiac: Autumn 18, born under Blue (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Scorpio, third decan)

____________________________

Name: Wraith the Dove

Name Reason: Wraith has always been named Wraith, though originally it was short for Scree Wraith. Scree referenced the pattern of his mottled gray and black feathers, which look like bits of stone. A wraith is an apparition, referencing Wraith’s proficiency with stealth. Wraith’s appearance has probably changed the least of any Eternity character, except maybe Escarlata).

Species: Rock Dove (Columba livia)

Species Reason: Wraith used to be called “Wraith the Pigeon”, but the difference between a pigeon and a dove is very minute and the terms are used interchangeably, so I thought “Wraith the Dove” sounded more streamlined, and his species was always a “rock dove”.  I’m one of those weird people who loves pigeons/doves; they’re just so cute, they have such gentle calls, and their plumage is pretty. I’m not from the city, so I rarely see them. Wraith’s main strength was always in his stealth, so the mottled dark plumage of (some) pigeons suited him, plus I wanted him to be an animal that isn’t conspicuous. This, along with the gentle coo, also makes him a foil to Escarlata, who is a scarlet macaw.

Alignment: True Neutral

Motifs: Stealth, espionage, secrecy, darkness, jazz

Birthday/Zodiac: Winter 8, born under Tawny (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Capricorn, third decan)

____________________________

Name: Yanna the Hawk (a.k.a. Pollyanna the Hawk)

Name Reason: Yanna’s name was originally Pollyanna (and Pollyanna is still her full name, though nowadays she usually goes by Yanna). Pollyanna comes from the term “Pollyanna” for an overly cheerful and optimistic person, which derives from the protagonist of the book Pollyanna. Yanna also sounds similar to “yandere”, which she most definitely is.

Species: Krider hawk (Buteo jamaicensis kriderii)

Species Reason: As far as I remember, Yanna has always been a hawk (and specifically a Krider Hawk). The Krider Hawk is a pale-feathered, leucistic but not fully albino subspecies of the Red-Tailed Hawk. They have very pretty markings. Yanna has an aggressive, assertive personality, and was formerly a knight, so being a hawk suits her.

Alignment: Neutral Good

Motifs: Love, pink, aggression, passion, positivity, cheeriness

Birthday/Zodiac: Spring 30, born under Silver (Western Zodiac equivalent would be Gemini, third decan)
